Eli Blevis

Eli Blevis

Eli Blevis serves on the faculty in the Human-Computer Interaction Design program of the School of Informatics at Indiana University, Bloomington. Dr. Blevis' primary area of research, and the one for which he is best known, is sustainable interaction design. This area of research and Dr. Blevis' core expertise are situated within the confluence of human computer interaction as it owes to the computing and cognitive sciences, and design as it owes to the reflection of design criticism and the practice of critical design. Dr. Blevis has published more than 50 articles and papers and has given several invited colloquia internationally on sustainable interaction design and the larger context of notions of design.

Jenny Allen

Jenny is a Masters student in the HCI/d program.  Her research interests include sustainable interaction design methodology, pervasive computing, and ethnography.  She is interested in determining how technology can be used to create and support high quality sustainable lifestyles.

Shruti Bhandari

Shruti Bhandari

Shruti is a recent graduate of the HCI/d Master program. She is interested in how existing technology can be designed to be more useful, and better placed in our society.
She wants to motivate people to be more thoughtful of impact of their activities on the environment.

Susan Coleman Morse

Susan is a Masters student in the HCI/d program. She is interested in geoinformatics and leveraging technology to create sustainable design solutions. Susan is working with an inter-disciplinary team dedicated to preserving the health of coral reefs in the Caribbean Sea. Other activities include small scale biodiesel production, supporting local food networks and being "room mother" for her son's first grade class.

Balakrishna Chennupati

Balakrishna Chennupati

Bala is a Masters student in the HCI/d program, finishing in 2008. He is interested in the social effects of technology, sustainability and the design of effective public
spaces and public transit. His Masters Capstone project was about using technology to motivate people to interact with their neighbors, more details can be found at http://mypage.iu.edu/~balchenn/neighbors.html.

Kristin Hanks

Kristin Hanks is a doctoral student in Social Informatics and has a master's degree in Human Computer Interaction Design from Indiana University. In addition, Kristin has eight years of experience working in university computing, including five years as an Operations Coordinator at IU’s University Information Technology Services. Her present work focuses on establishing stategic design plans for the "greening" of large organizations. This summer, Kristin is working on the Sustainable Computing project and will be developing a set of recommendations to reduce the environmental impact of computing on the IUB campus.

Will Odom

Will Odom

Will Odom is concerned with advancing designerly approaches in the context HCI research. Among other things, his interests lie at the intersection of sustainability, interaction design, and design for everyday life. Recently, his Masters research on Personal Inventories took first place at the CHI 2008 Graduate Student Research Competition. Along with his teammate David Roedl, he took first place in the interface design competition at the 2008 Microsoft Imagine Cup. Currently, he is a Fulbright Scholar at Griffith University Queensland College of Art in Brisbane, Australia. He has been known to enjoy copious amounts of espresso from time to time.

James Pierce

James Pierce

James is interested in the design of interactive products, services and systems which satisfy both our short-term and personal desires for pleasure, enjoyment and meaning, as well as our long-term and collective needs related to environmental and social sustainability. He is particularly interested in the intersections of design, criticism and sustainability. James drinks less espresso than Will, but compensates by drinking more milkshakes.

Dave Roedl

Dave Roedl

Dave Roedl is a recent graduate of the HCI/d Master Program. His primary interest is in eco-visualization--using interactive technology to make resource consumption visible in order to promote sustainable behaviors. Last semester, as part of his master’s capstone project, he designed
and implemented an energy-saving contest among the IUB residence halls (http://energychallenge.indiana.edu). He was recently awarded first place (along with teammate Will Odom) in the 2008 Microsoft Imagine Cup Interface Design competition. An article he co-authored with James Pierce was featured as the cover story for the July+August issue of ACM Interactions magazine. This summer, David will be creating an interactive public display to raise awareness about resource consumption on on the IUB campus. For more information, visit www.davidroedl.com.

Feixing Tuang

Feixing Tuang

Feixing is a Master student in the HCI/d program. She was involved in a project with Stranger's Hill Organic Farm to design a data record mobile device that collects data for production analysis. The data might also be used to inform consumers of the farming process and produce's growth history.

Recently, her project on designing a community-based household items exchange platform was chosen to advance to the Microsoft's Imagine Cup Worldwide Finals in Cairo, Egypt. http://imaginecup.com/MyStuff/MyTeam.aspx?TeamId=18132
